ROOF REPLACEMENT

WHEN TO CONSIDER A ROOF REPLACEMENT
A roof replacement is often the most reliable way to restore your property’s protection and ensure it meets current standards. Some homeowners choose to replace their roof to modernise the look of their home and improve kerb appeal, while others need to address leaks, damaged tiles or worn-out materials. Over time, tiles, slates and underlay (if even present) can deteriorate due to age, weather exposure or poor installation, leading to recurring issues that make a full roof replacement the most effective long-term solution.
OUR APPROACH TO ROOF REPLACEMENT
At Rogers Roofing, we carry out complete roof replacements using high-quality materials and installation methods that comply with BS 5534 roofing standards and UK building control requirements. Each project begins with a full inspection to assess the existing roof structure, ensuring it is suitable for the chosen roof covering.
As part of the re-roofing process, we also check the insulation within the loft space. In the UK, when replacing a roof, the property must meet a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K, which typically requires a minimum of 270 mm of insulation. If the existing insulation falls short, we can advise on suitable upgrades to meet compliance and improve the home’s energy efficiency.
MATERIALS AND SYSTEMS WE USE
Whenever we replace a roof, we install a new layer of high-quality breathable membrane from trusted brands such as Permavent, Marley or Proctor for the highest standards of ventilation and protection. All battens are graded to BS 5534 standards, and we exclusively use Super Yellow™ or JB Red roofing battens. These products are factory-graded, kiln-dried, treated to Use Class 2 and carry full third-party certification, giving real assurance of quality and compliance with building controls.
We use a range of roof coverings, including clay, concrete and slate options, both natural and fibre cement. We work closely with each customer to find the roof covering that best suits their property, advising on the most suitable manufacturers and materials to achieve the desired look while maintaining performance and longevity.
For the finishing details, we exclusively use Hambleside Danelaw dry ridge kits and Klober dry verge systems, both chosen for their proven quality and performance across all types of roof coverings. Hambleside Danelaw’s ridge systems are known for their clever design and build quality, providing secure mechanical fixing, built-in ventilation and reliable protection against water ingress. The materials are durable, weather-resistant and fully compliant with BS 5534 and BS 5250, giving long-term peace of mind that your ridge system will stay secure and ventilated in all conditions.
Klober’s dry verge systems are equally well engineered. Designed to deliver a tidy, consistent edge to the roof, they offer a strong, mortar-free fixing that stands up to high winds, UV exposure and driving rain. Manufactured to meet BS 5534 and BS 8612, these verge systems are built to last and maintain a clean finish with minimal upkeep, making them a practical, professional choice for modern roofing.
HOW THE WORK IS CARRIED OUT
The existing roof covering and underlay are first stripped and removed to expose the structure beneath. Once clear, the rafters are carefully inspected for any signs of damage or decay and repaired where necessary to ensure a sound base for the new roof.
Before fitting the new roof covering, eaves protection trays and eaves ventilation systems are installed. Eaves protection trays support the membrane at the lowest point of the roof, helping to direct water safely into the gutter and preventing the felt from sagging or deteriorating over time. Combined with eaves vents, they also ensure the required level of airflow is achieved to meet modern ventilation standards and reduce the risk of condensation.
A new layer of high-quality breathable membrane is then installed to provide ventilation and protection against moisture. The roof is accurately measured, and battens are evenly spaced and fixed to prevent short courses and maintain the correct gauge for the chosen roof covering. The new tiles or slates are then securely fitted, followed by the installation of Hambleside Danelaw dry ridge kits and Klober dry verge systems to complete the roof.
Before handover, we also carry out a complete clean and emptying of the gutters, leaving the roofline clear and ready for the customer.
BUILDING CONTROL AND COMPLIANCE
Every roof replacement carried out by Rogers Roofing is completed in accordance with building control regulations. Once work is finished, we arrange for the final inspection from building control, using either a building control service of your choice or our trusted provider. This ensures the roof is officially signed off and certified as compliant with current regulations, giving you complete confidence in the standard of the work.
LONG-TERM VALUE AND MAINTENANCE
A new roof is an investment in both performance and appearance. Beyond improving protection from the elements, it can enhance energy efficiency, reduce maintenance and add value to your property. With regular checks and cleaning, a properly fitted roof should provide decades of reliable service.
Whatever the reason for replacing your roof, whether to resolve ongoing issues or improve your home’s appearance, a full roof replacement ensures long-term durability, better ventilation, building control compliance and complete peace of mind.
Rogers Roofing provides roof replacements and related services across Wimborne, Bournemouth, Poole, Ferndown and the surrounding Dorset areas.
